Our Grandparents

The Wood Shed was started in March of 1984 by Jr. and Wilda Mathis.

The idea for the restaurant was simple, make great BBQ, burgoo, desserts and home cooking for a fair price. In 1995 they retired and passed the torch to their two sons, Phil and Mike Mathis. After 26 years of successfully carrying on their parents' vision, they have now passed it on to the third generation.

Jeremy hopes to continue in the original vision of his grandparents. In 2025 we managed to sell more than 13,000 pork sandwiches. We appreciate the loyalty of our customers for over 40 years and hope we can continue to be successful for years to come.
